Week 10: What’s in the Box?

You know what today is! What’s in the Box Wednesday! We’re coming off a super low from last week’s CSA box, so I guess anything is better than that, lol! This week does look better, I will say that. There are some new kids on the block including Sweet Corn on the Cob, Red Tomatoes, Yellow Wax Beans, Cheddar Cauliflower and Rainbow Chard.  Everything there sounds good except for the Rainbow Chard, so that went in the Swap Box.

I love love love Corn on the Cob, so I was super excited about getting some corn on the cob in my box. I do miss being able to grill it. That’s my favorite way to prepare it. Butter it up, add some salt and pepper, and then wrap in foil and place on the grill! But since I’m in a tiny city apartment now, I can’t do that. So I have to boil it. The sacrifices I make for urban living…lol. But I will tell you something. I was NOT excited to see what I did when I was shucking the corn…[click picture to enlarge] Ugh, it turned my stomach! So needless to say that ear of corn was tossed in the trash.

I’ve never had Yellow Wax Beans, but I do love Green Beans so I’m guessing they will taste similar. But tell me this…what’s the point in only giving each person a few beans? Seriously, there isn’t even enough for ONE person here. As you can see, I cut the tips off and prepared them (I didn’t clean them yet) and there’s not much there at all.

Red Tomatoes
– I will probably make a yummy Bruschetta – you can’t go wrong with that! But that will probably only use up one of the tomatoes. I also love tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella drizzled with a balsamic vinegar reduction. So that’s an option, too.

FRUIT SHARE

1 Jar Applesauce – Certified Organic – Bowman Mountain

1 Bag Plums – IPM – Weavers Orchard (pictured to the right)

The other day we just finished up the last jar of Applesauce that we got from the fruit share, so this is perfect timing for a new jar. It was delicious!

I’m not usually a big Plum person, but I will eat these. It’s a nice snack, and they are pretty tiny.

So this week’s box is definitely better than last week’s box. But next time, I could do without the yucky stuff in my corn! ;)
