The Hot Light is On!

As you know, Krispy Kreme opened up another store in Philadelphia on May 4th, 2011, as I wrote about here.  It’s been packed ever since. The first week or two the line was literally out the door. I’d walk to the corner, see the looooonnnnngggg line, and tell myself I’ll get an original glazed doughnut another day.

When I went to the Open House a few days before their Grand Opening, I tried the Cookies n Cream doughnut (take a look at it here).  I’ve been dreaming of it since. I got one last Friday for breakfast, because I just had to have one. I’ve been trying to get it out of my mind and it’s next to impossible.

Krispy Kreme Philadelphia was nice enough to pass along some coupons for me to share with you. You can print them out (if you click the coupon it will open another window; then print it) and take into either the Center City location (map below) or the Oxford Avenue location.

You can follow Krispy Kreme Philadelphia on Twitter, and be sure to “LIKE” them on Facebook!

Trying out the CVS/Coupon thing

Since we’re living in the big city now, it makes getting to grocery stores and Target a little harder. We do have a car, but a trip to the grocery store is no longer a 15-20 minute trip. It takes at least an hour or so. And then I have to lug all of the bags up to the 9th floor with a cart, unload the bags, take the cart back down to the parking garage, and so on. So I like to keep those trips to the store to a maximum of about 3 re-usable grocery bags so I can avoid the cart.

So I thought I would try the whole “CVS” thing. You know, where you check out the circular, match coupons, Extra Bucks, the whole nine yards. This definitely takes some preparation. So I made my list of things I needed that were in the circular this week. I figured out which coupons I already had, which coupons I could get online, etc. So I was armed with this fierce list & stack of coupons. I was ready to dive into this.

CVS is only 2 blocks from our apartment building, so it’s not far. I used the self check-out, and unfortunately it was spazzing out. So I pretty much had my own personal CVS employee to help when it would tell me the weight wasn’t matching up to what I purchased, or that my coupon wasn’t accepted.

Here’s how I made out. Not too bad for my first time, if I do say so myself! I apologize for no picture of the loot.

2 bags of M&M’s – originally $7.58 – On sale 2 for $5 – $1 coupon = $4.

2 boxes of Wheat Thins – originally $7.98 – On sale 2 for $4 – (2) $1 coupons = $2

8 roll pack of Bounty – originally $9.99 – On sale for $6.99 (+P&G EB)

(2) 16 double roll count Charmin – originally $29.98 – On sale for $19.98 (+P&G EB)

3 bar pack of Dial Soap – originally $2.77 – On sale for $1.99 – $1 coupon = 0.99 cents (+EB)

Dawn Dish Soap – originally $1.69 – On sale for $0.97

(2) Boxes of Colgate Toothpaste – originally $7.38 – On sale for $2.99 each ($5.98) – $0.75 = $5.23 (+EB)

Method Laundry Detergent – $8.99 (+EB)

(2) Purex 3 in 1 Laundry Sheet thingies – $15.98 (B1G1 Free) – $7.99 = $7.99 – $1 coupon – $3 coupon = $3.99

Advil Liquid Gels – $4.99 – $4.99 Coupon = FREE

(2) Reach Toothbrushes – $8.58 (B1G1 Free) – $4.29 = $4.29 – (2) $1 coupon  = $2.29

Saved: ($30.45)

Coupons ($23.03 + $3 CVS coupon = $26.03)

Extra Bucks ($21.98)

$10 P&G EB on the Paper Towels/Toilet Paper (spend $25 and get $10 EB)

$1 EB on the Dial Soap so it made the soap FREE

$5.98 EB on the Colgate Toothpaste – I actually made $0.75 on the deal

$5 EB on Method Laundry Detergent making it $3.99

Total: $52.43 + $0.95 (8% PA Tax) = $53.38 – $21.98 EB = $31.40

Total Savings = $78.46

This was fun. I look forward to doing it again next week (minus the self check-out spazzing on me!)
