Week 9: What’s in the Box?

You know what today is! What’s in the Box Wednesday! It was another one of those ‘blah’ weeks for the CSA box. It seems to be a trend now. I was not thrilled about any of it. A lot of the same old stuff, and I’m kind of over it.  Mr. Curly Fry picks it up for me each week since they picked the worst time ever for a pick-up time for my location (11am – 2pm – I guess they don’t think people work during the day?). At any rate, I had him leave a bunch of items in the Swap box this week that I did want. He said that everyone else had the same idea because the swap box was full of the same crap.

There are a few items I will use like the Onions, Broccoli, maybe the Garlic, and the Squash.  As for the Pickling Cucumbers…really? 3 TINY little cucumbers. What am I supposed to do with those?  Seriously…what was the point of them giving me 3 tiny ones? What a joke.  If I knew there were so few of them, I would’ve put them in the swap box too.

THE BOX: (* means it’s not pictured because it’s in the Swap Box)

1 Bunch Fresh Yellow Onions – Certified Organic – Crystal Springs Farm

1 Head Green Cabbage* – Certified Organic

1 Head Broccoli – Certified Organic

1 Bunch Green Kale*- Certified Organic – Life Enhancing Acres

1 Bunch Fresh Red German Garlic - Certified Organic – Liberty Branch Farm

1 Bunch Gold Beets* – Certified Organic – Organic Willow Acres

2 Yellow Patty Pan Squash – Certified Organic – Plum Hill Organics

1 Bag Pickling Cucumbers – Certified Organic – Taste of Nature

Kale…again. Really? I’m so over it. There may have been one or two weeks where we didn’t get Kale. And do you remember how I was jumping for joy those weeks? But it’s in this week’s box…again. So now it’s in the swap box with everyone else’s.

And we have more Beets. Yuck. I don’t care if they are red or gold, I don’t want them. So they are in the swap box as well, along with the Cabbage.

FRUIT SHARE

1 Pint Blueberries – Certified Organic – Little Buck Organics (Sourced from Hammonton, NJ)

1 Jar Red Raspberry Jam - Certified Organic – Oak View Organics

1 Bunch Rhubarb* – Transitional – Country View Produce

I’m getting tired of Blueberries because I think we’ve gotten them every single week so far. And week after week they go in my freezer for Smoothies. I’m not complaining about them yet, but if I keep getting them week after week I will get sick of them.

I can get down with the Raspberry Jam because I LOVE raspberry jam.  Although I still have that Strawberry Jam in my fridge that I haven’t opened yet.

Rhubarb…really? I was getting Rhubarb with my Vegetable Share before, and now I’m getting it with my Fruit Share. I feel like I’m getting ripped off. I still have the rhubarb in my freezer from the bunch of times I got it before. So this rhubarb went straight into the swap box (with everyone else’s).

HUGE thumbs down for this week’s box. I thought it was supposed to get better?!

  1. I’m sad you weren’t happy with the goods :( I LOVE beets, kale, and cabbage, so I thought it was a great week. Especially the kale– we got dinosaur kale this week, which is better than regular, curly kale. At least after the entire season is over you can decide whether you would want to do it again– it’s been very similar to last year.

    • Oh I’ve already decided I will not do this again next year. I wanted to cancel, but it was a few days after the 30 day period and they wouldn’t let me :(

I’d rather spend the money and go with either Suburban Organics or Panache Food where I can choose what I’m getting, ya know?
