It’s a Cupcake Carnivale in Philly!

One thing that I love about Philly is the Cupcake scene. It really is awesome. There are so many wonderful Cupcake trucks and Cupcake shops that I love to support. I’ve tried Cupcakes from many shops/trucks including (but definitely not limited to) Pamcakes, Sweetbox Truck and Ms Goody’s. And let me tell you I love all of these cupcakes but there’s always room for more!

I finally had the chance to try out Cupcakes from Cupcake Carnivale. They primarily sell out of their mobile Cupcake truck throughout Philadelphia Monday through Friday. They’ve never been around my area until now! When I heard that they were going to be at Love Park I was so excited! I’ve been following them on Twitter for quite some time and they are awesome! So on their first day selling at Love Park I stopped by on my lunch hour to pick up some Cupcakes. Let me tell you how impossible it was to have those Cupcakes sitting on my desk taunting me all day long!

I got a 6 pack of Cupcakes so that I could try one of each flavor. The following Cupcakes were on the menu that day: Orange Tilt-a-Whirl, Vanilla Sideshow, Chocolate Jubilee, Red Velvet Carnivale, Luscious Lemon and Chocolate Oreo Cookies & Cream Team.

The Orange Tilt-a-Whirl Cupcake was very good! It was an Orange-Vanilla Cupcake with an Orange Creamsicle Buttercream Frosting. Do you remember those Creamsicle Ice Cream Pops? The frosting tasted just like that! I loved it. It was the perfect orange flavor and it wasn’t too overpowering. I loved the vanilla and orange cake – it worked very well. It’ s just a beautiful cupcake, isn’t it?

The Vanilla Sideshow Cupcake is a Classic Vanilla Cupcake with Vanilla Madagascar Bourbon Buttercream Frosting. I loved that you could see the little specks of vanilla bean in the frosting. Loved it. The vanilla flavor was perfect. Give me a spoon and I could eat this stuff for dinner and you wouldn’t hear a peep from me. Those colorful sprinkles on top just made it that much prettier!

If there’s a Chocolate Cupcake I’m lucky if I even get a taste of it. Mr. Curly Fry loves chocolate so he’s the Official Chocolate Cupcake Taste-tester! But he does let me have at least a little taste. 😉 The Chocolate Jubilee Cupcake was definitely a winner. It’s a Valrhona Chocolate Cupcake with a Belgian Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. The Cupcake was nice and moist with a wonderful chocolate flavor to it. The Chocolate Buttercream was outstanding and those chocolate chips on the top were definitely a welcomed addition!

People in general are always raving about Red Velvet Cupcakes and I hate to say it but I’m just really not a huge fan of them. I’m sure I’ve said it before and I just honestly can’t pinpoint what it is I don’t like about them. But when we were trying out these Cupcakes I said that I’d put my feelings aside and taste this one, and I did. The Red Velvet Carnivale is a Southern Red Velvet Cupcake with Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting. Now I will confess that I fell head over heels in love with the frosting. I didn’t leave any frosting behind. The actual Cupcake was pretty good! It was definitely nice and moist. I let my other half eat the rest of the Cupcake part of it – he wasn’t allowed to have the frosting! 😉

I really hate to pick favorites, but I have to say that if I were to pick a favorite, this just might be it. But then again I love lemon flavored things. The Luscious Lemon Cupcake is a fluffy Lemon Cupcake with a Lemon Buttercream Frosting. Nice and simple, yet so flavorful. I really love how all of the Cupcakes were nice and moist. I didn’t run into one dry Cupcake, and that’s a very good thing.

Everyone knows that I love me some Oreos! So this Cupcake was definitely a no-brainer. However, I did let Mr. Curly Fry have this one (but I definitely tasted it!) because it’s a Chocolate Cupcake and he is also a fellow Oreo lover. The Chocolate Oreo Cookies & Cream Team Cupcake was another favorite! How could it not be?!  It’s a Valrhona Chocolate Cupcake with an Oreo Cookies & Cream Buttercream Frosting.  Doesn’t that just sound like a winner?! Cookies & Cream Buttercream Frosting is definitely one of my top 5 frosting flavors on this planet. And Cupcake Carnivale definitely makes a good one! It’s just such a shame I had to share it! 😉

So needless to say I’m a huge fan of Cupcake Carnivale’s Cupcakes!  I’m so happy that I finally had a chance to stop by and meet them and try some of their flavors. They’re some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet! There are so many different flavors in their back pocket so I’m sure I’ll be back to see what else they’ve got!

Be sure to follow them on Twitter  and on Facebook so you can see where they are and what flavors they’re serving each day!

  2. Hey Jen,
thanks for welcoming me to Philly and welcome right back at you to Food Bloggers Network.

I hope we can still be blogger friends if I tell you that I really dislike cupcakes. I know. I’m sorry. I wish I did like them. It’s the frosting. I never like it. But these all look so beautiful! I would probably have to give them a try if they were in front of me.

Any Philly tips you think I need to know?
