5 Ingredient Friday: The French Onion Division Series Dog

I’m a huge baseball fan, so it’s only natural that I love this time of year! MLB Playoff time! My team, the Philadelphia Phillies, set a franchise record with 102 wins in the regular season! How exciting! The Wild Card race came down to one game  and it was a very exciting night for baseball fans.

I wanted to do something fun during the playoffs, so here at One Curly Fry we’re going to spotlight Hot Dogs for 5 Ingredient Fridays during the playoffs!  Many people love a good ballpark hot dog. I wanted to jazz them up a bit for this though. So Mr. Curly Fry and I were brain storming some different flavors that we could put together and put them on a Hot Dog. The Division Series games start this weekend, so it’s only natural that first up is The French Onion Division Series Dog.

  • Hot Dogs
  • Hot Dog Rolls
  • Caramelized Onions
  • Pretzel Croutons (click here for the recipe)
  • Gruyere Cheese (Parmesan works also)

To start off – I like to boil hot dogs, and then finish them off in a saute pan. There’s just something I love about a hot dog that has been pan fried. If I had an outdoor grill I’d be using that, but since I live in the city and live in an apartment building that’s not an option for me.  So cook your hot dogs however you’d like!

Now it’s time to assemble the dog! Put the hot dog in the hot dog roll. Top the hot dog with caramelized onions. Use as much or as little as you want – totally your decision! Put some pretzel croutons on top of the caramelized onions. Top the croutons with cheese (I use a vegetable peeler to get thin slices of cheese to place on top, that way it melts nicely). Place the hot dog on a baking cheese and broil it for 2 minutes, until the cheese melts and is nice and bubbly.

Final Pastry Class – Week 6

Last Thursday was my final Intermediate Pastry Arts class. The class has been so much fun and I definitely learned a lot. For our last class we made Chocolate Truffles and a Chocolate Raspberry Tart.

We had an assembly line of 4 people going for the truffles. What a mess that can be. Personally I thought we would’ve been fine doing it in pairs, but the Chef wanted us to do in groups of 4 so we did. They weren’t hard to make at all. I want to make some myself, but with different flavors. We just did plain chocolate and then dipped them and coated them.

I’d love to create a Cookies n Cream Truffle. Maybe I’ll work on that this weekend and see if I can come up with a good recipe for that. And if it works out well I’ll make them to take with us on Christmas.

The Chocolate Tart wasn’t difficult either. It was a bit time consuming since we made everything for it.  I love Chocolate and I love Raspberries – but I’m not a huge fan of them together. Don’t get me wrong I ate the Chocolate Raspberry Tart and it was GOOD! But it wasn’t one of those things that I kept eating and eating. One piece was enough for me.

I can’t see myself making this specific tart again, but I’m totally open to making a different flavor. I have some of the dough in my freezer for my next experiment. I’m thinking about making a Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart.  Now that sounds like a winner!

BEAT L.A…AGAIN!

It was a late night at the Curly Fry house last night. It was Game 4 of the NLCS – Phillies vs Dodgers. WHAT A GAME! The Phillies didn’t play such a hot game, but they pulled out at win in the 9th inning with 2 outs! Jimmy Rollins was the hero of the game, driving in 2 RBIs to win the game.

It was great. I’m still a bit peeved about how Friday night’s game ended, but I’m trying to get over it. The Phillies should’ve won the series last night, but we’ll go ahead and do that tomorrow night here in Philly! Then we’ll be WORLD SERIES BOUND! AGAIN!!!!

NLCS, here we come!

Less than a week ago I predicted that the Phillies would win the National League Division Series in PHOUR games.

And I was RIGHT!

Phillies took the series 3 – 1, but it sure was a nail biter last night! There was no napping in the curly fry house – because there was lots of yelling at the TV!

NLDS Prediction

My prediction for the National League Division Series is:

PHILLIES in PHOUR!

Let's Go Phils!

We went to our last Phillies game of the regular season on Friday night. Even though we lost, it was still fun. Below is a picture of the view from our seats!

They were okay seats – we much prefer the seats in section 102 in the outfield. That is where we plan on sitting next year for our season tix.

But we’re totally pumped for the POST SEASON! I’m bummed that the games start at 2:37pm on Wednesday and Thursday. I guess they don’t care about us folks that WORK during the day! :(

I know I still owe y’all a trip review from Disney – I haven’t forgotten about it. I’ve just been busy with other things. It will be coming soon!

Are you a baseball fan? Who do you root for?

Season tickets!

So we’re big Philadelphia Phillies fans around these parts and we decided to go ahead and buy Season tickets to the Phillies for the 2010 season. Now we won’t go to all of them games – that would be nearly impossible since there are 83 games! But we can go to the games we want to (maybe 20??), and then sell the rest of the tickets.

This shouldn’t be a problem since there are probably friends, family and colleagues that want to go to the games. Season ticket holders have the ability to sell tickets from their season ticket plan directly through phillies.com / StubHub! — and tickets can be delivered through Instant eDelivery without the use of FedEx. So we wouldn’t have to have any communication with the buyer! YAY!

So I’m totally excited about it! If you’re a Phillies fan (or know someone who is!) and are interested in buying tickets to games in 2010, keep us in mind!

Blood, Sweat & Tears

I haven’t blogged for a while since I’ve been so busy with my painting project. I’m so happy to report that the painting was finished completely as of Monday afternoon! I’m still in the process of putting the bathroom together, but once it’s totally finished I will definitely post some pictures! I’m definitely proud of my first painting project! I started the project on Thursday (one week ago) and I worked my butt off the entire weekend until it was done. I didn’t want to drag it out, so once I started it was full steam (and sweat!) ahead.

And don’t worry – I did remind Carlos that he thought I’d quit halfway through! He said that I did a kick ass job for it being my first time, and that I got it done fast.

I’m actually surprised that I got it done so quickly – I should be finishing everything up tomorrow though – so stay tuned!!!!!

Other than that, there isn’t much going on in my world. My niece turns one year old on Saturday, so we have to go to her birthday party. I was given a list of things to make so I guess I’ll be busy tomorrow night making Pasta Salad, Chocolate Fudge, and Peanut Butter Fudge. Please give me strength not to eat any of it!

On Saturday Carlos gave blood at the Philadelphia Phillies blood drive. We got a tour of Citizens Bank Park and he got to have his picture taken wearing the World Series ring. Here are a few pictures.
