Espresso Yourself is on Shelves Now at Pamcakes!

EspressoYourselfTXT2

So I told you all about the Flavor Challenge that Pamcakes had and how I WON!

Espresso Yourself!

I was on vacation in beautiful Florida when the flavor debuted on the shelves, so I had to wait until I got home to stop by and pick one up to try.

Check out the beautiful view I had all week…

Beach

So even though I wish I was home to try the cupcake the day it debuted, I was in paradise so I couldn’t really complain.

So take a look at this beauty…

This cupcake was everything that I thought it could be.

The only bad thing is that I only bought ONE! Big mistake!

Next time I will buy a couple of them, because they were that good!

It’s a Chocolate Cupcake brushed with Kahlua
and topped with an Espresso Buttercream,
garnished
with Oreo Crumbs around the edge and
a Chocolate Covered Espresso Bean on top!

It is March Madness at Pamcakes!

It’s March Madness and that means there are a few seasonal flavors available at one of my favorite cupcakes spots here in Philadelphia. This weekend Pamcakes introduced the Irish Car Bomb and Mint Cookies n Cream cupcakes so you know I had to stop by and pick them up so that I could share them with you! I mean, it would be totally wrong if I didn’t do that, right?

In addition to those two seasonal flavors, I picked up another cupcake that I haven’t tried yet. Yeah, I know, I’m surprised there’s a flavor I haven’t had yet too! I just got back from Vegas where the weather was absolutely gorgeous – high 60’s, low 70’s every day. I came back to Philadelphia and it was quite chilly! So needless to say, I’ve got spring on my mind so the other flavor I picked was Strawberry Lemonade. Yum!

So let’s cut to the chase…

Isn’t that a beauty?

It took everything I had in me not to dig into that cupcake as soon as I brought it home.

I should’ve had dessert before dinner.

I love the shamrock sprinkles on top – how festive!

This cupcake features a Rich Chocolate Guinness Cupcake, Irish Whiskey Ganache Filling & Bailey’s Irish Buttercream frosting.

Sounds divine, doesn’t it?  Well, it was.

As usual, Pamcakes hit the nail on the head. The flavor was on point.

I mean…I could smell the booze when I cut into the cake.

Doesn’t that say enough right there?

And that Irish Whiskey Filling? Oh my. I couldn’t get enough of it!

I love Cookies ‘n Cream. It’s one of my favorite flavors ever. Ask anyone.

So you know I had to try this flavor with a mint twist when it hit the Seasonal Menu.

Now as I’ve said before, I’m not a huge mint fan, but I do like the flavor,
so I usually don’t mind giving it a chance.

I know this isn’t a Girl Scout Cookies Thin Mint Cupcake, but I was definitely confident that Pam could definitely beat the pants off of Crumbs Bakeshop if she were to make one. And even this Mint Cookies ‘n Cream Cupcake was waaaaay better than the cupcake from Crumbs. By far.  And this doesn’t surprise me at all since I think very highly of Pamcakes, and I haven’t really had anything at Crumbs that really impressed me.

This cupcake features a Vanilla Cake blended with Mint Oreo Cookie Crumbs, topped with Vanilla Mint Buttercream and Cookie Crumbs.

One word for this…LOVE. I adored the Vanilla Mint Buttercream.

It was the perfect combination of Vanilla and Mint. It wasn’t too overpowering.

I think I’ll look forward to this one every March!

I can’t believe it’s already time to Spring Forward next weekend, can you?

I swear I was just basking in the glory of my extra hour of sleep!

But I’m definitely looking forward to warmer weather, longer days, and not having to wear a coat.

Baseball season is coming up soon too! Right now it’s Spring Training.

So this cupcake is the perfect way to get ready for Spring.

This cupcake features a Lemon Speckled Cake topped with Sweet Strawberry Buttercream.

Now I’m a huge fan of the Pucker Up Cupcake because I’m all about lemon. I love it.

So I knew I had to try this one. And it was definitely a keeper!

This was one of our favorites.

The cake was so moist, and the strawberry buttercream had the perfect amount of strawberry in it.

After we finished it, we wanted more.  But hey, what’s new?

What’s your favorite Spring Cupcake flavor?

Holiday Cupcake Flavors {Pamcakes | A Philly Cupcakery}

It’s no secret that Pamcakes is one of my favorite Cupcake Shops in Philly. I’ve been there a bunch of times and I’ve shared my experiences with you! So when I heard there were some holiday flavors available, I knew I had to try them and share them with you! It certainly is dangerous living only 5 blocks from these delicious cupcakes because it’s way too convenient to stop by. I picked up a box of 6 cupcakes, with 4 of the holiday flavors that were available that day. I couldn’t just walk out with those 4 cupcakes; I had to get 2 of the everyday flavors to take home as well.

Before we talk about these cupcakes, I have to show you these super cute Peanuts/Snoopy holiday plates that I got years ago. I don’t decorate much for the holidays, but I had to get these plates out.

I have to start out with the Maple Walnut Pancake Cupcake because I’m still dreaming about it. Seriously – it’s that good. Don’t get me wrong, they were all good. But that one just stood out to me. It’s a maple walnut cake topped with vanilla maple buttercream and crushed toasted walnuts.

And you’ll see there’s this little puddle of maple syrup that sits on top.

This vanilla maple buttercream is one of the best buttercreams that I’ve ever had. I’d like a bowl of it with a spoon, please. The cake was nice and moist and that buttercream…just awesome.

And then I got to dig into the maple drizzle!

If I’m being honest here, I don’t like Eggnog – at all. The thought of having to drink some gives me anxiety and turns my stomach. I’m all about the bourbon so I had to try this Spiked Eggnog Cupcake. You know, for you guys!

It is an eggnog cupcake spiked with a dash of Bourbon topped with spiced rum eggnog buttercream. I have to say that this cupcake was actually pretty good. I’ll say that I definitely prefer eggnog in cupcake form. I really enjoyed the bourbon flavor! This wasn’t my favorite cupcake, but it was good enough to eat again. And if you like Eggnog you should definitely pick this one up.

I like peppermint. But I don’t love peppermint. And there are few peppermint things that I’ll eat. I do love candy canes – even though I haven’t had one yet this year! I like peppermint gum. I love Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. I don’t like any of that green mint chocolate chip ice cream though. That stuff is not good to me. I really do not like peppermint lattes from Starbucks. Yuck. I don’t like peppermint + espresso. There are two peppermint cupcakes on the holiday menu, and I tasted them both. Because, well, why not?

First up is the Chocolate Peppermint Cupcake and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I wasn’t expecting the cupcake to be bad at all – I just wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did! The thought of mint brownies and other mint desserts just doesn’t appeal to me. But honestly this was an awesome cupcake! I really liked it and I would definitely order it again.

It’s a chocolate cake topped with vanilla peppermint buttercream drizzled with chocolate ganache. I think a big part of why I liked this cupcake was because Pam didn’t overdo it with the peppermint flavor in the buttercream. It was the perfect amount of peppermint flavor and she didn’t go overboard. Plus, isn’t it such a beautiful cupcake?! Look at it!

Last, but certainly not least, we have the Vanilla Peppermint Cupcake. This was a really good cupcake, but I definitely preferred the Chocolate Peppermint Cupcake just because I liked those flavors better together. But I have absolutely nothing against this vanilla peppermint one – it’s still very good and I would definitely recommend it! It’s a vanilla cake topped with vanilla peppermint buttercream and crushed peppermint candies. And just like the chocolate peppermint one, it sure is a beauty!

These holiday flavors are available until December 30th so make sure you stop by and pick some up! I’ll be stopping by on Christmas Eve to pick up my dozen cupcakes to share with my family on Christmas! :)

Cupcake Monday: Pamcakes – Over a Year Later!

It’s no secret that I love cupcakes. We moved to a new part of the city last month and that means that I’m only a few blocks away from Pamcakes! This is dangerous. Very dangerous. Because I can be there and back in 15 minutes or so.  It wouldn’t be fair to just pick one cupcake place as my favorite. Because there are three of them that I love. My favorites here in Philadelphia are from Pamcakes, Ms. Goody, and the Sweetbox Truck.

It was a beautiful day so I figured that I’d take a walk over to Pamcakes and get some cupcakes since it’s been quite a while since I’ve had the chance to stop by. So in true One Curly Fry fashion I picked out six flavors. Who on earth would be able to go to a Cupcake Shop and only pick out a flavor or two? Not me.

I walked home with this pink beauty.

Cupcake Monday: Pamcakes Encore!

Happy 4th of July! Welcome to our final installment of Cupcake Monday! Last week we reviewed Whipped Bakeshop in Fishtown.  This week it’s a Pamcakes Encore! We reviewed Pamcakes several weeks ago and they were such a hit, we went back for more! Click here to vote for Pamcakes for BEST CUPCAKES! They certainly got our vote!

I wanted to try some of the new flavors of cupcakes this trip. We got four new flavors, and then two of our favorite flavors from before – Triple Chocolate Threat and Pucker Up! Click here to see what we had to say about them! We just couldn’t resist those cupcakes!

First up - Lemon Razzle Dazzle - Lemon Speckled Cake, Sweet Raspberry Buttercream

I chose this cupcake because I absolutely loved the lemon cupcake from the last visit, and the raspberry buttercream piqued my interest.  As usual, the lemon cupcake did not disappoint.  It had a very good, powerful lemon flavor that really resonated on my taste buds.

As for the raspberry buttercream, I’m really on the fence about it. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t dislike it. I feel that a better take on this cupcake could possibly be the lemon cupcake, a raspberry filling and a lemon buttercream garnished with a fresh raspberry. I just felt like the cupcake lacked the “razzle dazzle” that it could have. But I am happy that I got to try this new cupcake and taste a raspberry buttercream. I give props to Pam for coming up with new and interesting flavors! I think this cupcake definitely has potential.

Second – Black & White – Chocolate Cupcake with Vanilla Buttercream and Star Sprinkles

Since I picked up these cupcakes over the 4th of July weekend, I needed to get a festive cupcake!  This is pretty much your basic cupcake, but with some star sprinkles. I figured it was okay to get this flavor since this is one we didn’t try the last time.

The chocolate cupcake was delicious and moist. The vanilla buttercream was pretty good, but could have used a little more vanilla flavor. Perhaps some vanilla bean would have added a little bit more flavor to it? I added in a little bit of vanilla bean to my vanilla buttercream the last time I made it and it made a world of a difference. At any rate, this cupcake was still divine and I wouldn’t pass it up if someone brought it to me!

Third – Ice Cream Sundae – Chocolate with Vanilla Buttercream, Chocolate Ganache & Sprinkles, topped with a Cherry!

There’s really no way I could have left the shop without this Ice Cream Sundae Cupcake! It looks absolutely amazing!! I love the look of it. What a great idea, and Pam executed it perfectly. Mr. Curly Fry claimed this cupcake when he saw it, and he said it tasted like he was eating an ice cream sundae. The cherry brought the perfect amount of tartness. The chocolate cake was very moist, and the chocolate filling gave it that “hot fudge” punch. This cupcake was definitely a home run and be sure to get to Pamcakes as soon as possible so you can taste this cupcake.

Last but not least – Peanut Butter Cup – Double Chocolate Chip Cake, Fluffy Peanut Butter Frosting, Peanut Butter Cup Topping

I love Peanut Butter, so when I saw this cupcake in the case I knew I had to get it. It was absolutely heavenly. The chocolate cupcake was so moist and flavorful, I wanted to cry. And the frosting – I have no words. I have never tasted a Peanut Butter Frosting that was quite like this before. It was out of this world. The frosting was definitely plentiful! I felt like I was eating some peanut butter fudge on top of my cupcake. It was soooooo good. I didn’t want the cupcake to disappear. But that’s what happened after a few bites.

So needless to say, this was my favorite cupcake out of this bunch. The Ice Cream Sundae cupcake was a close second. But as I said before, none of the cupcakes from Pamcakes disappoint. They are truly the best cupcakes in Philadelphia and we’ve tried a lot of them! So Pamcakes will definitely be my go-to cupcake shop when I need cupcakes for any type of occasion…or even if I just want to get cupcakes, just because!

If you haven’t yet, be sure to follow Pamcakes on Twitter and “Like” their Facebook Page.
