It looks like my cat needs a new mouse for Christmas…
Mouse
Snow!
Silly kitty cat
First, let me say that I totally forgot to take pics of my very first turkey! It slipped my mind. Oops. I will say that it turned out great!!! Brining was the way to go, and I’ll definitely do the Williams-Sonoma Apple & Spice brine again. Worth. Every. Penny! Carlos even raved about how juicy it was 5 days after Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving was a very busy day. I spent ALL day long cooking. Yeah, remind me to never do that again. Next year I’ll definitely bake the pies the night before, and prep what I can the night before. I was exhausted by the time dinner was over. I was almost too tired to have dessert. And for those of you that know me, you probably wouldn’t believe that! But I had a tiny sliver of each pie (sweet potato pie and apple pie) shortly before I passed out for the night in my bed.
Can y’all believe it’s DECEMBER already? Seriously?! Where has the time gone?
I want to leave you with a few pics of my kitty cat Myssy. He’s so silly. He lives a rough life, I tell ya!
Check out his eyes. Carlos is convinced he’s possessed! LOL
Kitchen Cabinets
When we bought the house, it didn’t have any hardware on the kitchen cabinets. Over a year later, we finally got around to purchasing cabinet hardware and putting them on.
I’m not a fan of white cabinets, but they aren’t in bad shape so I figured I’d jazz them up a bit.
And I can’t wait to get new appliances – I’m hoping to do that at the beginning of the year! And next up (I hope!) is putting up a back splash! And painting. I can’t wait to get new counter tops, a new floor, and a center island. If money only grew on trees…
Here are a few pics of what the cabinets looked like when we bought it:
And here are a few pics after putting the hardware on:
Fourteen Pounder
I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is in less than a week. How did it get here so fast? Seriously. I swear it was just the 4th of July. The time is just flying by.
So I already bought the bird for Thursday. It’s a fourteen (14) pounder. Wow. For two people. Talk about leftovers for days! And please let me note that this will be my first time roasting a turkey. Ever. So I will definitely have to report back how it goes.
I got the brine from Williams Sonoma and I’m so excited to try it out. It’s Apple & Spices Turkey Brine.
I figured if I’m going to do this, I should just go all out!
Everyone gave this brine great reviews, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it.
I’m kinda bugged out about the whole Stuffing thing though. I can’t bring myself to actually stuff the bird. It kind of skeeves me out. It’s not actually stuffing it, but it’s EATING the stuffing that was in there.
Stuffing is my FAVORITE. My Mom’s stuffing is the best. But this year I won’t be able to have it. What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Aside from eating Thanksgiving dinner, my favorite thing about Thanksgiving is looking through all of the circulars for Black Friday. I just love to see what sales are going to be offered. I don’t even leave the house on Black Friday, so I never go shopping! I just like to see what everyone gets up at the ass crack of dawn for.
If I do any shopping on Black Friday, it’s online!
Inquiring minds want to know: Do you go out shopping on Black Friday?
It's been a while.
Wow, it’s been quite a while since I’ve updated! Things have been pretty crazy lately. Work is kickin’ my butt. So I’ll just leave you with some random comments for now…
I can’t believe we’re almost in the middle of November.
My commute is back to normal since the SEPTA strike is over.
We’re still adjusting to life without baseball. It became such a part of our daily routine, and now it’s gone (for about 90-some more days).
I finally tried making the homemade donuts, and they were fabulous! I forgot to take pictures – oops. Next time.
I’m happy the Chargers beat the Giants!!
There is cake in my future – my Mom’s birthday is on Thursday! So on Saturday we’re having dinner & cake for her birthday! YUM. Looks like I have to fight my nephew and my niece Katy for the piece with the most icing…LOL!
My favorite show is Dexter. LOVE it.
The Stove Top Stuffing peeps were giving out coupons for free stuffing and thousands of free SEPTA tokens downtown this morning. How nice! It’s part of their Spread the Warmth campaign. What a wonderful thing to do!
And I’ll leave you with My Lil Pony. Say hello! She entertains me and keeps me company here at work.
BEAT L.A…AGAIN!
It was a late night at the Curly Fry house last night. It was Game 4 of the NLCS – Phillies vs Dodgers. WHAT A GAME! The Phillies didn’t play such a hot game, but they pulled out at win in the 9th inning with 2 outs! Jimmy Rollins was the hero of the game, driving in 2 RBIs to win the game.
It was great. I’m still a bit peeved about how Friday night’s game ended, but I’m trying to get over it. The Phillies should’ve won the series last night, but we’ll go ahead and do that tomorrow night here in Philly! Then we’ll be WORLD SERIES BOUND! AGAIN!!!!
Let's talk Donuts!

[picture courtesy of King Arthur Flour]
So I recently received a few donut pans and some King Arthur Flour donut mixes as a gift! I’m looking forward to baking my own donuts and making some yummy icing to go on top! How fun!
First off let me say that I don’t like when donut is spelled “Doughnut” – total pet peeve!
Now that I have that out of the way…
To kick off the donut party, I will be making King Arthur Flour’s Ultimate Chocolate Donut! It will be topped with the Chocolate Glaze they have listed on their web site.
My other half is a choc-o-holic, so that’s why we’re starting out with the chocolate.
I’ll take some pics and let y’all know how they turn out. We’ll compare them to that pic up there that King Arthur posted, lol!
What is your favorite donut flavor?
NLCS, here we come!
Less than a week ago I predicted that the Phillies would win the National League Division Series in PHOUR games.
And I was RIGHT!
Phillies took the series 3 – 1, but it sure was a nail biter last night! There was no napping in the curly fry house – because there was lots of yelling at the TV!

Living room pics
So in honor of being in our house for a year, I figured I should post some pics since we’ve updated the joint. Today the spotlight is on the living room!
We got it painted (check out the new colors!), got new shades (my FAVE! They are the top down/bottom up), new lighting fixtures, etc. We still need to put up more pictures/wall decor. That will be coming soon!
First up: Shades. I ordered these online from Blinds Chalet. LOVE! They’ve got great prices. And let me tell you their customer service is superb. I had a bit of an issue with a few of the blinds…and they went above and beyond to fix it. I’d recommend them to anyone, and I’ll definitely be making a future purchase. Let’s take a peek…
These are just opened with the bottom up:
These are top down! I love having this option.
This is our sofa. Besides my bed, this is my favorite piece of furniture!
To the left:
To the right (sorry about the bad glare!)
TV, and other technology, lol!
My WINE CABINET! (That desperately needs to be filled!)
I’ll put the picture of the Foyer here, since it opens up to the living room. I love the way the color of the foyer and the color of the living room look next to each other.
